Why this space matters

Marvell College serves a large secondary school community, with high footfall across its corridors and breakout spaces. These circulation zones do more than connect classrooms — they’re where conversations happen, energy flows, and pastoral support is provided. Flooring in these areas needs to be robust, safe, and visually clean — and installed in a way that doesn’t interrupt learning.

The brief

Hull Flooring was appointed to complete a phased 1,000sqm flooring upgrade across the circulation and breakout areas of Marvell College. The project was part of a wider lifecycle maintenance programme overseen by the school’s FM provider and the local authority.

Our scope included uplifting the existing finishes, preparing the subfloors, and installing a mix of Altro vinyl flooring and Burmatex carpet tiles, delivering a modern, slip-resistant, and low-maintenance result.

Making it work

All works were completed during the summer holiday window, with realistic goals set and agreed ahead of time to ensure handover before term began. During preparation, we encountered unforeseen subfloor challenges that required attention, but thanks to clear communication and quick thinking, we raised the issue, resolved it with the client, and still delivered within the original timeframe.

Our install team used an Ardex smoothing compound to prepare the surface, then laid down safety vinyl in high-traffic routes and carpet tiles in classrooms and more relaxed, social zones - balancing durability with comfort.

The result

Marvell College now benefits from clean, safe, and hardwearing new floors that elevate the day-to-day school environment. Delivered on time despite technical challenges, this project is a strong example of Hull Flooring’s ability to plan well, think quickly, and deliver without disruption.
