Laying the foundation for fun: a seamless install for a new flagship store in one of the UK’s busiest retail destinations.

Floors need to be resilient enough for high footfall, clean enough to meet family-friendly standards, and versatile enough to support ever-evolving displays and retail zones.

The Entertainer, Bluewater - Hull Flooring

The brief

Hull Flooring was appointed to install a variety of floor finishes across the new Entertainer store at Bluewater Shopping Centre. The brief included full subfloor preparation and the installation of multiple systems across both retail and staff amenity areas - covering a total area of 420sqm.

Works were scheduled during daytime hours but required flexibility to adapt to programme changes and coordination with other trades.

Making it work

Our team began by applying Arditex NA smoothing compound to level and prepare the subfloor - a critical first step in ensuring finish quality. Once complete, we installed a mix of floor finishes to suit the needs of each zone, including Amtico Spacia LVT for the main retail space and Polysafe vinyl sheet in staff and back-of-house areas.

Unexpectedly, the subfloor required significantly more latex and prep than scoped. Hull Flooring mobilised additional labour and materials at short notice to maintain momentum - completing the work within the original programme window despite delays from other trades.

To keep the project on track, we shifted to night works toward the end of the schedule, working around other contractors and restricted access zones without compromising quality or safety.

The result

The project was handed over in full alignment with The Entertainer’s quality standards and store opening schedule. By adapting quickly to on-site realities and coordinating with multiple teams, Hull Flooring delivered a polished, durable result that supports both customer experience and operational needs.
