Phased flooring works across a dual-campus school, delivering safety, durability, and zero disruption.
Why this space matters
This joint secondary and special educational needs (SEN) school serves hundreds of students across a large shared campus. With a mix of mainstream classrooms, breakout zones, and SEN learning environments, every space needs to support calm, comfort, and control, especially for those with sensory needs. Floors must be safe, smooth, and durable under pressure – while being installed with zero disruption to the school day.
This is not just a floor...
It’s where focus, learning, and confidence can thrive.
The brief
Hull Flooring was appointed to support a phased flooring replacement programme at Winifred Holtby & Tweendykes School. As part of a lifecycle maintenance agreement with the local authority, the facilities management company is tasked with keeping the building in top condition, including regular floor upgrades across all circulation, teaching, and support spaces.
We were brought in to uplift the existing flooring, prepare the subfloors, and install new safety vinyl and needlepunch carpet tiles throughout the school — working zone by zone across an estimated 3,000sqm footprint.
Making it work
All works are completed exclusively during school holidays, with clear and realistic goals agreed well in advance. Our planning and delivery needed to be exact – ensuring no overruns, no missed deadlines, and no disruption to the students or staff returning at the start of term.
We uplifted existing finishes, applied smoothing compound, and installed durable safety vinyl flooring in circulation areas and needlepunch carpet tiles in quieter zones. Working across multiple phases over time, our team ensured consistency, cleanliness, and compliance throughout – while responding flexibly to the priorities of the FM provider and school leadership.
The result
This ongoing programme continues to improve the quality, comfort, and safety of learning spaces across both schools. By working within the holiday windows and delivering to schedule, Hull Flooring supports an environment where students can thrive – without ever seeing the disruption behind the scenes.
